It's me again, Jules!

I have always been a creative. The arts fill my heart. From drawing to dancing to writing to crafting to cake decorating to embroidering. The more creative, the better - my poor Mum always had piles of creative 'messes' around the house...and now my own dining table regularly holds the same mess. That said, my favourite creative format has always been photography. It captures moments. Life in still form. It gives you the blessing of travelling right back to a moment in time. I've always said, 'I see my life in photos'...if I have a photo of a moment, I can remember the feelings and details of those seconds. If it's in black and white, all the better.

"To see in colour is a delight for the eye, but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul." - Andri Cauldwell

Despite always loving photography, as a hobbyist, I first became a primary teacher (after a few other stops along the way). I still teach. I love it - it's a beautiful form of creativity and connection of its own. But, in taking maternity leave to have my own 2 babies and then being faced with covid lockdowns, I lost the creative outlets I have craved my whole life. Photography, spurred by my desire to capture my own kids, Xavi and Paige, came bursting back on the scene. With my beautiful husband, Andrew, cheering me along the whole way, 'Jules McKenna Photographer', as a business, was born in April of 2021.

Whilst I am relatively new to the world of professional photography, and still believe I have much to learn and master, I am loving this journey so far. I have connected with many professional photographers to gain knowledge and inspiration over the past few years and am committed to continuing this. I have done one-to-one mentoring with the creative powerhouse that is Clare Oliver, and, explored varied formats of landscape and portrait photography in a weekend workshop with Clare and her Dad, the genius that is David Oliver. I've participated in a family portrait workshop by the always inspiring Codie Murray, delved deep into technical learning via Rachel Vanoven's Collective online resources and most recently partaken in a photography business course by the amazing Stacey Rolfe. I believe there is always something new to learn, and am always developing and growing my ability for this art form.
